He who quenches the power of fire (Hebrews 11:34)
What is the power of fire? In one word, the answer is ‘to digest’. To quenches the power of fire means that the fire has lost its power to consume.
We see an example of this in the Bible. Once when King Nebuchadnezzar ordered a golden image to be made and bowed down to it, three young men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, disobeyed the kings command. So the king ordered
them to be thrown into the burning furnace. Although the king's soldiers increased the heat of the furnace seven times and put them in it, the heat of the furnace could not burn them. Because the Lord Jesus came down there and extinguished the power of the fire.
Only Jesus has the authority to give power to fire and to quench its power. That is why John the Baptist preached out; (Luke 3:17) “whose fan is in his hand, thoroughly to cleanse his threshing-floor, and to gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire”
There are many issues that are likely to come into our lives that are like fire that has the power to consume us. Maybe you are going through some similar situations today. Don't worry, the one who quenches the power of that fire is with us today. The Lord will deliver us from this fiery furnace without even smell of fire on us.
prayer
Father God, thank you for these good words you have spoken to me. There are many issues in my life that are like the fire that has power to consume me. Just as you came down into the furnace of fire for thy children, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, Please come down in to my problems and deliver me.
Praying in Jesus name. Amen.
